SAN LEANDRO — A 50-year-old Oakland man was killed Thursday night in a hit-and-run on Interstate 580, the California Highway Patrol said Friday.
He was identified by the coroner’s office Friday as Stephen Courtway.
The CHP said he was walking eastbound on the right-hand shoulder of the westbound lanes of I-580 near 150th Avenue about 10:07 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a vehicle that continued on without stopping.
Courtway was taken to Eden Hospital in Castro Valley, where he died later from his injuries.
The CHP did not say in a news release why he was on the freeway or if any vehicles associated with him were found in the area.
The CHP is asking anyone with information about what happened, including a description of the vehicle involved, to call its Castro Valley office at 510-581-9028.
