Sutter Health said it was working to recover Tuesday from a network outage that affected the medical care system’s care provision to patients in Northern California.
Some of our information systems are currently off-line. We have implemented our standard downtime procedures and are working to restore our systems.

“Some of our information systems are currently off-line. We have implemented our standard downtime procedures and are working to restore our systems,” one tweet read.
Our top priority is patient care and safety. Services are open, although some services may need to be delayed or rescheduled. Patients are asked to arrive at their appointments as scheduled unless they have been contacted with specific instructions otherwise.

The outage began about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Sutter Health spokesman Dean Fryer said Tuesday.
“Some of our systems are down, and we are working to bring everything back to full restoration,” he said.
In subsequent tweets, Sutter said the downtime had also taken its website offline but that the system had not lost any data and that the “downtime is due to an activation of the fire suppression system in one of our Information Services buildings.”

Although the outage hit scheduling and internal communications systems, Fryer said staff were using regularly drilled “downtime procedures” to log care on paper for re-entry when the system fully returns.
Fryer said sites such as the system’s Santa Rosa center saw relatively little disruption, but San Francisco’s California Medical Pacific Center was forced to delay some surgeries and Berkeley’s Alta Bates had to cancel some surgeries.
“One of the issues we constantly train on is to simulate drills to address this, along with earthquakes, hospital evacuations. This is one of them we are always drilling on,” he said.
