Former A’s outfielder Milton Bradley, charged with misdemeanor spousal battery, has agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors that will keep him out of jail, TMZ Sports reported.

Bradley, 40, pleaded no contest to domestic battery. He was sentenced to 36 months of probation and 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling. In addition, he will be charged with fines and fees. Had he been proven guilty he could have faced one year in jail.

As a condition of his probation, Bradley will be prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Bradley’s charges stemmed from an incident at his Los Angeles residence in January. His wife told police Bradley had physically assaulted her. Bradley left the scene before police arrived.

It marked the second time Bradley had been convicted of domestic violence, according to TMZ. The first came after a series of incidents involving Bradley and his previous wife.

Bradley played in the major leagues for 12 years on eight teams. He played for the A’s in 2006 and for 19 games in 2007. His best season was in 2008 with the Texas Rangers, when he was selected to his only All-Star game.
