SAN LEANDRO — An Oakland man was charged Thursday with attempted homicide with two weapon-enhancement charges after his arrest this week in connection with a recent liquor-store shooting, authorities said.

About 7:40 p.m. June 15, a man entered 3-Ring Wine & Spirits, 15267 Hesperian Blvd., and bought a bottle of liquor before leaving the store, police said Tuesday.
But the man returned soon after, got into a dispute with two clerks “over an unknown reason” and left, police said. Then the man, shirtless and waving a gun, came back in with a woman who tried to pull him away.
The man fired the gun at the clerks, barely missing them but hitting a wall behind them, police said. The woman then pulled the man out of the store, and both left the area.
In a statement, police identified the shooter as Caesar Browning, 29. Browning and his girlfriend were arrested at their Oakland home Tuesday evening after detectives identified them, but the woman was later released from custody without being charged.
“This was a violent and unprovoked incident committed by the suspect,” San Leandro police Lt. Isaac Benabou said.
“Once again our detectives were able to identify the suspect through the assistance of surveillance video footage. Without this valuable piece of evidence, this case may have gone unsolved.”
Browning was in custody Thursday evening at Santa Rita Jail on $100,000 bail and faces a July 24 hearing at Dublin’s East County Hall of Justice, according to county records.
