Why the U.S. needs a free pressnow more than ever
Good editorial: “Newspaper killings attack democracy and all Americans” (June 30).
It is abundantly clear now that a horrible mistake has been made with Trump taking the presidency through the use of the undemocratic Electoral College. So far, “checks and balances” have not stopped him in his attempt to dismantle democracy.
Journalists who report the truth about Trump (and the Republican sycophants) should be treated as heroes instead of described as “an enemy of the people.” Where are the good Republicans that value our democracy and justice/fairness over greedy tax cuts and deregulation?
We are in uncharted waters with this sociopath. Robert Reich (former U.S. labor secretary) warned in a column a few weeks ago that America should expect social unrest as Trump may not accept election results and continue down the path of dictatorship.
We need the free press now more than at any time in our history.
