OAKLAND — A woman who has spent much of her life advocating against violence is now planning a rally for her son, Patrick Demarco Scott Jr., who was fatally shot in February in North Oakland.
Carol Ferguson, founder of the “More Foundation,” an advocacy group dedicated to anti-violence, said the rally is to show support for other parents who’ve stood in her shoes and to prevent more slayings.

“I don’t want another mother to ever feel like I do now,” Ferguson said in a phone interview with this news organization. “I never thought this would happen to my son.”
The rally will begin noon Saturday at 62nd and Market streets at the 88 bus stop. Participants will march down Market Street.
Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf plans to be there from noon to 1 p.m., according to Justin Berton, a spokesman for her office.
The intersection where the rally starts is significant because the 27-year-old Scott, a Berkeley resident at the time, was gunned down on the 6200 block of Market Street, just a few blocks from the Berkeley border, at about 11 a.m. Feb. 3.
Police have not released a motive for the killing or made any arrests.
A reward of up to $30,000 is being offered for anyone with information related to the incident. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821, the FBI at 415-553-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
