MARTINEZ — The Contra Costa District Attorney charged a BART stabbing suspect with murder Thursday, after the victim died from an infected cut, court records show.

Abdul Bey, 20, is facing a murder charge with a knife enhancement, court records show. He is charged with stabbing Pittsburg resident Gerald Bisbee, 51, after the two reportedly argued on a train at the Pleasant Hill BART station.

Bisbee suffered a bloody lip and small cut on his knee after the attack. He went to a hospital the next day, got discharged, but then was found dead in his bed on Friday. A statement from BART police attributes his death to an infection from the cut on his knee.

Bisbee was one of three people to be fatally attacked in the BART system within a one-week period, including the savage Sunday attack on a MacArthur station platform that claimed the life of Nia Wilson, 18. Her sister, Latifa, suffered critical injuries. A Concord transient has been charged with murder and attempted murder in the attack, which prompted widespread outrage and coast-to-coast media coverage.

In another fatal confrontation, 47-year-old Don Stevens was attacked at the Bay Fair station in San Leandro on Saturday, fell on his head and died from his injuries.
