LIVERMORE — Crews responding to reports of explosions and fire early Friday found a smoky blaze at a house, fire officials said.
Firefighters encountered a large volume of flames when they arrived about 12:53 a.m. at the home, in the 900 block of Orion Way, according to Battalion Chief Aaron Lacey of the Livermore–Pleasanton Fire Department.
Crews found the fire had spread into the garage and attic, and contained the blaze after battling flames for 40 minutes, he said.
No injuries were reported.
A large number of items located outside of the home, including large compressed gas cylinders, contributed to the large fire, said Lacey.
It was the cylinders, of unknown gas, that exploded and were heard by neighbors, he said.
The three occupants of the home were inside when the fire began, but were able to get out safely, the battalion chief said. Firefighters were also able save about 95 percent of the home, keeping the fire mostly to the exterior of the house.
“The homeowners were really happy about that,” Lacey said.
Firefighters also salvaged some of the homeowners’ valuable belongings. The house sustained smoke, fire, and water damage to a portion of the structure, and was deemed unsafe to live in for now.
Five engines, one truck and two battalion chiefs from Livermore-Pleasanton Fire were sent to the one-alarm fire.
The cause is under investigation.
