Part of Highway 24 in Oakland shut down after multi-vehicle wreck

OAKLAND — One person was injured and a Sig Alert was issued Friday morning after a tractor-trailer and two vehicles were involved in a collision on Highway 24, authorities said.

The big-rig jack knifed and blocked three westbound lanes of the highway east of Broadway, the California Highway Patrol said..

The multi-vehicle collision was reported at 8:29 a.m. and the Sig Alert was issued 10 minutes later. It remained in effect until 10:18 a.m. causing traffic to backup for some distance. Traffic was back to normal a short time later.

The cause of the collision was under investigation.

There were initial reports that someone was trapped in one of the vehicles but the fire department said no one had to be cut free from any vehicles and that all of the occupants had gotten out on their own..

The fire department said six people were in the three vehicles involved but only one was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

At least two of the vehicles involved had to be towed.
