Hurricane Florence has cancelled hundreds of flights on the East Coast. But for the most part, Bay Area travelers have not felt the ire of Florence. San Francisco International Airport is only reporting four cancelled flights from Raleigh/Durham – two arrivals and two departures. And Oakland International Airport and Mineta San Jose International airports are not reporting any delays or flight impacts related to Hurricane Florence.
Still, if you have a flight connecting in or out of the Carolinas or the nearby vicinity, airlines are offering waivers and other assistance to travelers affected by the storm.
American, Delta, Southwest, United, Alaska, JetBlue and Spirit are offering fee-free changes to those affected by the hurricane this week.
And if your flight is cancelled, here a few things to know:
— Remember, when an airline cancels your flight, they are required to give you a seat on your original airlines’ next available flight, or refund the unused portion of your ticket.
— Typically if an airline cancels your flight well before the departure time, it will automatically rebook you and notify you by e-mail, phone or text. Generally it’s better to accept the re-booking and a much greater hassle finding an alternative.
— If you used a travel agent to book your flight, it’s always better to go through the travel company to have them arrange a new flight.
