OAKLAND — A man and his dog were injured in a shooting on Interstate 980 in Oakland on Friday, authorities said.

The shooting was reported about 7:30 p.m. in eastbound lanes, just west of Interstate 580, said California Highway Patrol Officer Herman Baza.

Officers arrived to find a vehicle in the center divide. Baza said the occupants, a man and his dog, were injured by broken glass.

The man’s injuries were described as “minor to moderate.”

The man was taken to a hospital and his dog to a veterinarian for treatment, Baza said.

The CHP has yet to arrest or identify a suspect, Baza said.

Additional details about the shooting, including whether the man was the intended target, were not immediately available.

“This is still an ongoing investigation,” Baza said, “so we have limited information.”

All lanes of eastbound I-980 west of I-580 were closed several hours for an investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact the CHP at 800-TELL-CHP (835-5247).
