A collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle left one person dead and several lanes of an eastern Alameda County roadway closed, authorities said Sunday.
The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig-alert after the collision, which occurred near the 13700 block of Altamont Pass Road, near its intersection with West Grant Line Road, CHP Officer Damian Johnston said.
Just before 4:50 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to reports of the collision and arrived to find a silver Ford F-250 pickup truck that had collided with a Harley Davidson motorcycle, then plummeted into a ravine.
Despite efforts by a medical helicopter to reach the site, at least one person was pronounced dead, Johnston said.
The CHP closed Altamont Pass Road between Carroll and West Grant Line roads, with no estimated time of reopening. Drivers in the area should seek alternate routes and avoid the area.
