OAKLAND — A 19-year-old Antioch man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of another man last week in East Oakland, according to authorities and court records.
Davonte Tyson is charged in the broad daylight killing of Marcel McCarther, 37, who was shot about 4:05 p.m. Oct. 9 at the intersection of High Street and Congress Avenue.
Besides the murder count Tyson is also charged with felony unlawful firearm activity, stemming from a prior conviction in Contra Costa County that he received probation for, authorities said.
He is scheduled to enter a plea Nov. 5 and is being held without bail.
McCarther, who lived in the area, was shot a few minutes after getting out of his vehicle and may have been walking to a nearby market. He died at a hospital about 4:30 p.m. that day.
Police believe the men were acquainted with each other, but how close their relationship was is not certain. No motive has been released by police for the shooting.
Tyson was arrested a few hours later in another part of East Oakland after he was identified through video surveillance.
