SAN LEANDRO — The cause of a fire that heavily damaged a market in unincorporated San Leandro early Thursday remains under investigation, officials said.
The fire was reported at 2:32 a.m. Thursday at the Mediterranean Market, located in a strip mall in the 16000 block of Foothill Boulevard, officials said.
The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes, said Alameda County Fire Department Deputy Chief Jim Call.
The market was closed at the time, and there were no injuries to any firefighters. Call said a person at a neighboring business suffered a laceration while evacuating.
The market was heavily damaged by the fire and adjacent businesses sustained smoke damage, Call said. A damage figure was not available.
