OAKLAND — Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry escaped injury after his Porsche was hit twice in a span of a few minutes while driving on a rain-slicked Highway 24 early Friday, authorities and team officials said.
Curry later arrived at the Warriors practice facility in Oakland and was said to be fine.
“He’s fine. He was a little shaken up like anybody would be after a car accident,” Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said. “Thankfully nobody was hurt and Steph’s doing fine. I think he has another car he can drive. I think he’ll be okay.”
Curry was traveling westbound on Highway 24 past the Caldecott Tunnel and approaching Highway 13 when around 8:48 a.m., the driver of a silver Lexus sedan lost control coming out of the tunnel crossed three lanes of traffic to the far-left lane, and hit the Porsche, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Facebook post from the CHP states that Curry pulled over to the center median after the crash, and seven minutes later, a black Honda Civic also lost control, veered into the center median, hit the concrete barrier, and hit the back of the Porsche.
No injuries were reported from the collision, the CHP said, adding that rain was a possible factor in the crash.
Thankfully, everyone walked away uninjured due to everyone wearing their seatbelts,” the CHP said in the post. “We would like to remind everyone to slow it during inclement weather.”
Curry wasn’t scheduled to play Friday night when the Warriors take on Portland at Oracle Arena. Curry is still sidelined with a strained groin that’s caused him to miss Golden State’s last seven games.
