BERKELEY — A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter team rescued two boaters stranded amid ruins off the Berkeley Marina after heavy winds blew their boat into the debris.

According to the agency, a person who saw the stranded pair made contact with the agency around 11 a.m. and reported the boat stuck at the pier. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew came to the scene along with a 45-foot response ship from the San Francisco station.

The helicopter crew hoisted the boaters to safety and took them to Air Station San Francisco to be evaluated. They were not injured. Neither of the two were identified.

The agency reminded the public that boating in high winds such as those that hit the Bay Area on Saturday is dangerous and that amateur boaters should go out only if necessary.
