HAYWARD — Crisis negotiators supported by a SWAT team talked down a man who was barricaded inside a shed in the backyard of a house near Tennyson High School early Tuesday, police said.
Police responded to the area of Murray Drive and Dunbar Place after reports that a person armed with two shotguns was walking down a street, police said. The first call came around 8:15 a.m., police said.
Once there, officers learned that the man was in the shed, and that he had the guns, Lt. Guy Jakub said. Witnesses also told police that he had been heard saying that one of the guns was for animals and the other for humans, Jakub said.
Negotiators talked with the man until he surrendered without incident around 11:15 a.m. and was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats, Jakub said.
“He followed the commands of the negotiators, and it was a good ending,” Lt. Guy Jakub said.
Police kept people clear of the area during the incident and said there was never any danger to the nearby public.
