ALAMEDA COUNTY — A big rig crashed down an embankment early Monday morning, prompting the California Highway Patrol to close two transition ramps and issue a traffic alert, the agency said.
All lanes from Interstate 580 were open, and the transitions to I-205 and I-5 clear by 8 a.m., the CHP said. Both were closed for a time after the big rig crash, which ended with the truck overturned and about 50 feet down an embankment, the CHP said.
The crash happened around 3:10 a.m. on eastbound I-580 just east of the Grant Line Road exit. The CHP closed the transition ramp to I-205 just before 5:40 a.m. and kept it closed for about 25 minutes.
After that, the two far left lanes on the transition ramp to southbound I-5 were closed. The lanes reopened around 7:40 a.m.
It was not known immediately whether the big-rig driver was injured.
