FREMONT — A crash involving a garbage truck and two other vehicles Wednesday morning injured one person and shut down a portion of Niles Canyon Road, authorities said.
The wreck happened at 6:37 a.m. on Niles Canyon Road west of Palomares Road. A Sig Alert was issued at 6:56 a.m. and it was not known when the roadway would reopen, officials said.
Geneva Bosques, the Fremont police spokeswoman, said preliminary information shows that a vehicle swerved to avoid a rock in the roadway and collided with an Allied Waste Management truck, causing the truck to bounce off a guard rail and collide with a second vehicle.
No vehicles overturned. Traffic in both directions of Niles Canyon, also known as Highway 84, was blocked while police and fire crews responded.
The driver of the vehicle that initially swerved was hurt, Bosques said, but the extent of that person’s injuries was not available.
The wreck remains under investigation.
