Fremont seeking residents’ ideas for planned Centerville park

Fremont is asking residents to tell it what kind of features should be included at a planned four-acre park in the Centerville district.

The city will hold four meetings beginning Saturday through April where officials will provide basic information about the park and gather feedback. Residents also will be allowed to walk the future park site at the corner of Dusterberry Way and Peralta Boulevard.

An online survey of residents will be conducted as well.

The site used to be a car dealership and showroom, and the city is currently using the building on the land for storage.

However, after agreeing to allow the Fremont Unified School District to build an elementary school on a piece of planned parkland at the corner of Eggers Drive and Hastings Street, the city was required by state law to create a park elsewhere to compensate for the lost space.

The city plans to use $5.5 million in park fees and city capital improvement funds to develop the park, city officials have said.

In the interim, the plot at Dusterberry and Peralta was also being eyed as a potential overflow parking lot for commuters using the Centerville Train Depot, about a half-mile away.

The first community meeting will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon at Centerville Presbyterian Church, 4360 Central Ave. in Fremont.

The following three meetings will be will be held on Feb. 9, from 9 a.m. to noon, and March 6 and April 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. They will take place at Artist Place, 3888 Artist Walk Common, in Fremont.

Translations are available for multiple languages if requested in advance. For more information about the meetings, check the park webpage, or contact Senior Landscape Architect Mark Mennucci at MMennucci@fremont.gov or call 510-494-4530.
