Relatives have been keeping a vigil in her hospital room and said in the GoFundMe posting Jones “will face difficult times as she recovers, but her family will be with her every step of the way.”
Jones was in a marked crosswalk about 8:19 p.m. Dec. 26 in the 2900 block of High Street near her home when she was struck by a dark-colored 1990s Ford Mustang going southbound on High Street. The car kept going and police are still seeking the driver.
She was walking home from a neighborhood store when she was hit.
Jones retired from the Oakland Unified School district in 2012 after a decades long career of teaching at several elementary schools.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver. Anyone with information may call police at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
