Bay Area roads treatedas a dumping ground

We all have a social conscious that informs us that trash is a blight, yet it is multiplying throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

Where there is a little, more soon follows. There is litter over guardrails, in run-off ditches, on all level and sloped roadside surfaces.

Our roads are treated as a dumping ground because they are. No street, highway or city is exempt. The Bay Area is a travelers’ destination. We welcome visitors, yet debris and litter are often their first impression. It conveys the message that we do not care, or value a clean community or the health and safety of our citizens and environment.

Litter needs to be picked up.

If not, it will continue to accumulate and blemish our landscape, becoming small dunes along highways and city streets, seeping into groundwater, washing down storm drains and being flushed out to the growing mass of garbage in our great Pacific.
