OAKLAND — Many Bay Area residents woke up Thursday morning to a jolt from a magnitude 3.5 earthquake centered about 1.9 miles north of Piedmont, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake, recorded at 6:11 a.m. along the Hayward fault, was centered in the same general vicinity as a 3.4 magnitude quake Wednesday morning.
The coordinates given by the USGS located the epicenter about 300 feet from that of Wednesday’s quake. Both are along Tunnel Road (Highway 13) just north of the interchange with Highway 24.
There were no immediate reports Thursday of any substantial damage or injury from the quake.
BART reported trains were running at reduced speeds to allow for track inspections, which is protocol following a quake. BART asked riders to prepare for delays up to 15 minutes throughout the system.
