OAKLAND — A fire Thursday morning at a homeless camp underneath BART tracks in East Oakland forced trains to temporarily stop running, officials said.
No injuries were reported in the fire.
The fire was reported about 7:12 a.m. Thursday at the camp underneath the BART tracks in the 8500 block of San Leandro Street.
Thick smoke from the fire caused BART trains to stop in the area because of visibility issues but they resumed regular service by 7:30 a.m. after the fire was extinguished, officials said. What caused the fire was not immediately known.
Flames scorched at least one track support pillar and BART officials went to the scene to make sure it was not structurally damaged, authorities said.
