SAN LEANDRO — The Alameda County district attorney’s office charged an Oakland woman and Stockton man Wednesday in connection with a traffic stop last week, authorities said.

Around 3 p.m. Jan. 18, police responded to a restaurant’s parking lot and spoke with a victim, who told them he saw two people get out of a silver Jaguar with dealership paper plates before breaking his vehicle’s rear window.

After he saw the pair reach in and take a backpack containing his laptop computer, they got back in the Jaguar and drove away, the victim said.

The victim gave police pictures of the burglary that he managed to capture on his smartphone, and officers shared descriptions of the suspects and vehicle with other officers.

Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, an officer patrolling the 600 block of MacArthur Boulevard saw a silver Jaguar with paper plates from an East Contra Costa auto dealership. The officer stopped the vehicle and noted its driver and passenger matched the suspects’ broadcast descriptions, police said.

A vehicle search yielded burglary tools and stolen property, including several laptops, and the officer was able to tie some property to an hours-old Brentwood burglary.

Kevin Blocker, 26, of Stockton and Carmen Johnson, 35, of Oakland were arrested and booked into county jail on suspicion of multiple felonies, police said.

“Auto burglaries will continue to occur in our community,” San Leandro police Lt. Isaac Benabou said in a statement Thursday.

“However, when preventative measures fail, we turn to reactive enforcement. This case is an example of our patrol officers staying observant, searching for wanted vehicles and suspects at all times.”

Neither Blocker nor Johnson were listed in custody Thursday night, according to a county records check.
