Candle sparks fire at residence in Alameda

ALAMEDA — Firefighters treated a woman for what they described as a “non life-threatening injury” at the scene of a residential fire that was sparked by a candle Thursday on Morton Street.

The fire was reported at 5:05 p.m. in the the 1100 block of the street, where crews initially found fire coming from second floor windows, authorities said.

The occupants exited before firefighters arrived, and firefighters extinguished the fire within about 20 minutes. Fire damage was limited to the second floor.

There were no reported firefighter injuries. Twenty firefighters responded.

Assisting agencies included the Alameda police, Alameda Municipal Power, the city’s building department, and PG& E
