BERKELEY — A 21-year-old man was shot numerous times Friday afternoon in South Berkeley, authorities said.
He was taken to a hospital and was reportedly in serious condition. His name has not been released and police have not said where he lived.
The shooting happened about 1:15 p.m. Friday in the area of Derby and Grant streets.
Police responding to 911 calls found the man wounded, Lt. Peter Hong said.
Police were investigating if the man was shot by someone in a vehicle or someone who confronted him on the street.
A motive has not been determined yet and no arrests have been made.
Streets in the area were shut down while police conducted their investigation.
Authorities said it was the first shooting in Berkeley this year where someone was actually found to have been hit by gunfire.
