Three Richmond boys arrested in Berkeley robbery

BERKELEY — Three Richmond  boys, 15 and 14 years old, have been arrested  in the Saturday robbery of a woman who had her cell phone taken, police said Tuesday.

Police said about 6:40 p.m. Saturday the boys confronted the woman who was walking on Sacramento Street between Virginia and Cedar streets and one of them grabbed her cell phone from her hand before they ran off.

Based on descriptions provided by witnesses, two of the suspects, one 14 and the other 15, were located in the area of Holly Street and Buena Avenue. The third suspect, 15, was located near Ohlone Park. The cell phone was recovered.

The three were arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of stolen property.

Police also reported Tuesday that a woman using a downtown ATM machine was robbed by another woman  who claimed to have a gun.

The robbery happened about 10:10 a.m. Monday outside the Chase Bank, 2150 Shattuck Avenue. The suspect approached the woman as bills were being dispensed from the ATM she was using, told the victim she had a gun and demanded the money, police said.

The robber then walked away with the cash, the amount of which was not released by police.  The woman suspect is described as white, 50 to 55 years old, between 5 feet 4 and 5 feet 5 with a heavy build who was wearing a maroon or burgundy jacket.
