SAN BRUNO — A 31-year-old Hayward man who police said was required to use an ignition interlock device common for past offenders of driving under the influence is suspected of driving that way again Tuesday morning and crashing his car into a pickup truck, police said.
Melguis Orlando Lemus, 31, rear-ended the pickup truck around 12:10 a.m. at the intersection of El Camino Real and Taylor Avenue, police said. The driver of the truck wasn’t injured. The collision happened at a red light.
Lemus was hospitalized for injuries that were classified as minor and later released with a notice to appear in court. Police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on a suspended license and operating a motor vehicle with an ignition interlock device.
The device forces the driver to blow into a mouthpiece and show a blood-alcohol level of below .08 before the car will start.
