OAKLAND — A male suspect who allegedly sought to confront and kill Alameda County sheriff’s deputies outside Oakland International Airport was taken into custody, authorities said.
In a statement, the suspect apparently approached some sheriff’s deputies’ vehicles around 8:45 a.m. Sunday while the deputies were patrolling the airport’s Terminal One.
Deputies soon learned the man was outside, and saw him with a folding knife. When deputies confronted him, he dropped the knife but later became uncooperative and picked it up again before walking away from a deputy, who drew her service weapon and followed him from a distance.
After the suspect turned back toward the vehicles, other deputies arrived on scene and managed to de-escalate a tense situation and take him into custody.
The unidentified suspect was arrested on several charges, including brandishing a weapon and making criminal threats.
