SAN LEANDRO — A 64-year-old San Lorenzo man was killed Tuesday morning after authorities said he pulled his motorcycle directly in front of a semi truck at a traffic signal.

Just before 9:20 a.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to the intersection of northbound Hesperian Boulevard for a report of a collision.

Arriving officers found a 2013 Kenworth Aerocab big-rig truck with a trailer and a 1995 yellow-and-black Harley Davidson motorcycle with an unresponsive rider.

Alameda County Fire Department firefighters also responded and provided emergency life-saving measures, but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was identified Tuesday afternoon as Gregory Ott, 64, of San Lorenzo.

Investigators later found that the big rig’s driver, a 21-year-old man, had stopped in the left-hand turn lane while waiting at a traffic signal to enter the southbound Highway 238 on-ramp. While waiting, Ott’s motorcycle pulled alongside before slipping into a space directly in front of the truck. When the signal turned green, the truck pulled forward and its front end struck the Harley.

The truck’s driver, who was not injured, stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers. Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be collision factors, a CHP officer said.

Northbound lanes of Hesperian were closed to traffic for at least two hours while investigators processed the scene for evidence and towed vehicles.
