OAKLAND — A man arrested in Nevada has been charged in a March 10 shooting in an Old Oakland parking lot that left a man he did not know dead and someone he was acquainted with wounded, according to authorities and court records.
Deontre Brown, 22, of Oakland, was arrested March 12 in Sparks, Nevada, where he awaits extradition to Alameda County.
He is charged with murder and assault with a semi-automatic firearm in the killing of Cassius Stroman, 42, of San Francisco, and the wounding of a 37-year-old Rancho Cordova man.
They were shot about 7:45 p.m. March 10 in a parking lot in the 800 block of Washington Street.
Authorities said Brown was present when an argument broke out between Stroman and some other people in the lot who Brown was acquainted with, including the Rancho Cordova man. When the argument got more heated, Brown is accused of pulling a gun and firing shots that hit Stroman, who he did not know, and the Rancho Cordova man he is acquainted with, according to authorities and the documents.
Stroman, an electrician, died later at hospital. The Rancho Cordova man was shot in the arm and was treated and released at a hospital.
Authorities said Brown was identified as the suspect through video surveillance and witness statements. Police learned he had fled to Sparks and police there found him hiding at a friend’s home, authorities said.
