Yes, it’s true. The world-famous chef Alice Waters and her fashion designer daughter, Fanny Singer, are hosting a sale March 31 in the car park at Chez Panisse. Hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and all are welcome.
According to Singer’s Instagram post, the event is called Alice & Fanny’s Flea Market at Chez Panisse, featuring “decades’ worth of treasures, from the high to the low” plus “bargains and Alice’s hats.” Singer, a fashion designer, also mentions vintage and designer clothes, antiques, crafts, book ephemera and more. It’ll be a rare opportunity for fans to meet Waters, who will be there signing her books, posters, and, yes, the hats.
Yup, it’s no ordinary garage sale. In addition to whatever fabulous, auction-worthy gems Waters is parting with, there will be treasures from Singer, who launched a line, Permanent Collection, with Mariah Nielson in 2016. Perhaps we can score a used pair of those fabulous $400 Blunk Disc earrings.
Either way, may the rummaging be ever in your favor. Chez Panisse is located at 1517 Shattuck Ave., in Berkeley.
