BERKELEY — A 25-year-old man was attacked by a group of men Friday who hit and stomped on him until he lay bleeding near the UC Berkeley campus, university police said Saturday.
Officers caught sight of a blood-soaked man, who is not a student at UC Berkeley, walking on the 2600 block of Channing Way near Bowditch Street around 8:04 p.m., police said.
The man, who was not identified, told police he had just left The Graduate bar — located inside the Graduate Berkeley hotel on Durant Avenue — when he was assaulted by three to five men wearing gray and black hoodies, according to Sgt. Tom Syto. The men said something to the effect of “Oh, you think you’re banging up here?” and attacked him, the man told officers.
Firefighters at the scene found that the man had a one-inch laceration on his temple. He was later taken to the hospital, authorities said.
No suspects in the case have been found. Anyone with information is asked to call Berkeley police at 510-981-5900, or UC Berkeley police at 510-642-6760.
