Fremont police said today they arrested a man who assaulted a woman with a machete during a possible possible road rage incident Tuesday afternoon.
At about 1:04 p.m., police said they received a report about a confrontation between two drivers on Brophy Drive, a residential street in the city’s Glenmoor neighborhood.
“The witness told officers that they believed the incident stemmed from road rage where both drivers were seen swerving and cutting each other off,” according to a police statement.
After the woman pulled into a driveway, the man pulled up and got out of his car with a machete, which he swung at the woman, police said.
A nearby witness captured part of the confrontation on a cellphone video, and the man fled in his car when the witness approached him, police said. The witness followed the man, helping police locate him on nearby Mildred Drive.
Police said the man was arrested for brandishing a weapon and assault with a deadly weapon, and booked into the Fremont Jail.
The machete was located in the front seat of the car and collected for evidence. No injuries were reported by police.
