BERKELEY — University of California police are asking for the public’s help in finding suspects after an armed robbery near People’s Park, authorities said.
At 2:12 a.m. Thursday, police dispatchers took a call from a 21-year-old man who said he had been walking an hour earlier near the park at Dwight Way and Bowditch Street when a newer-model white SUV approached him.
A suspect, described as a 25-year-old male about 5-foot-10 with a thin build and wearing a hooded sweatshirt, got out and pointed a small black semi-automatic handgun at him before demanding his cellphone, the victim said.
After taking the phone, the suspect got back into the SUV and drove away in an unknown direction, police said.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call UC Berkeley police’s criminal investigations bureau at 510-642-0472 during business hours and 510-642-6760 at other times.
