Sausalito police arrested an Antioch teen after finding her driving a car reported stolen in San Leandro.
A city license plate scanning camera detected the car entering Sausalito shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday, said police Lt. Bill Fraass. Police stopped the car on Bridgeway near Turney Street.
Police booked the 17-year-old driver into Marin County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle. She had a tool “commonly used” to break into cars, Fraass said.
Police released the teen’s two passengers to family members. The passengers were a 16-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl.
The car, a 2017 Toyota Yaris, was reported stolen on May 31.
Sausalito implemented the license plate readers in May 2017. Police credit the cameras for helping them recover 16 stolen vehicles and arrested 23 suspects for various offenses.
