OAKLAND — East Bay Municipal Urban District workers finished multihour repairs to a water main that broke over the weekend, authorities said.

Around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, a phone call alerted district staff to the main break in the 2700 block of Park Boulevard in the Ivy Hill neighborhood east of Lake Merritt.

An investigator on scene within 10 minutes corroborated the main break, and stand-by crews summoned by 6:50 p.m. arrived by 9:30 p.m., EBMUD spokeswoman Tracie Morales said.

By 10:30 p.m., crews began repairs to a section of a 12-inch cast-iron water main installed in 1930, Morales said.

Lanes of Park Boulevard and 7th Avenue were blocked to allow for arriving equipment through Sunday evening, when repairs were complete.

“We’re turning on the valves as we speak, so we can get the remainder of affected customers in service,” Morales said just after 6 p.m. Sunday. EMBUD said service to all affected customers should be back to normal sometime tonight.

At least 76 customers along multiple surrounding streets suffered levels of water-pressure loss from Saturday evening through Sunday evening.
