OAKLAND — A man who died Thursday night when his car plunged off an Interstate 880 onramp in East Oakland, then landed on the freeway and was hit by another vehicle was identified by the coroner’s office Monday as Roshell Brewer Jr., 50
The coroner did not list a place of residence for Brewer, who was alone in the vehicle.
Authorities said Brewer was driving at an apparent high speed about 10:20 p.m. Thursday on the northbound entrance to I-880 from 98th Avenue when he lost control of his car which fell down a 30-foot embankment and rolled over a few times before landing in the extreme right lane of the freeway.
The vehicle was then hit from behind by another vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.
Brewer was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was reported injured.
The fatality remains under investigation. Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call the CHP at 510-450-3821.
