AC Transit was providing buses for riders to take between the Fruitvale and Coliseum stations and Fruitvale and downtown Oakland and West Oakland stations. BART spokeswoman Anna Duckworth said train service was restored with only residual delays by 1:40 p.m.
A resident of the 1000 block of East Eighth Street who did not give his name said he was working on his car about 10 minutes before the train strike. He added that he was familiar with transient foot traffic along the train tracks and was used to hearing trains come through or even stop on occasion, but had never heard a sound like the strike before.
