One thing ancient dramatists knew was that sometimes humans mess everything up so badly that you need a deity to descend from the skies to sort things out.
A bigger world means bigger problems, however, and it’s going to take more than one heavenly being to set right such a colossal foul-up as global warming.
In Inferno Theatre and BootStrap Theatre Foundation’s new play “The Gods Are Not Happy! A Dark Comedy for Dark Times” by BootStrap founder Sharmon J. Hilfinger of Palo Alto, gods of various Indian, Egyptian, Native American, Greek, Chinese and Latin American traditions conspire to come up with a Silicon Valley-style scheme to reverse global warming, only they need to kidnap some billionaires for the fundraising portion.
Inferno artistic director Giulio Cesare Perrone directs the comedy at Oakland’s Brooklyn Preserve, with one special performance at Berkeley’s David Brower Center on Oct. 26 that includes a post-show panel discussion on the environment.
Details: Through Oct. 28; Brooklyn Preserve, 1433 12th Ave., Oakland; $25; infernotheatre.org.
