Student supports McKereghan for Alameda school board

I am a senior at Encinal High school and am writing to voice my support for Anne McKereghan for the Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) School Board.

I know you may be thinking why would I listen to a teenager’s opinion for an upcoming election? Well I think I have a unique insight into Ms McKereghan’s involvement in the AUSD schools. Since I was 8 years old I have watched first hand the work Anne has done for our schools. She has worked with my mom to run parcel tax and bond campaigns for our schools.

Ms McKereghan was on the campaign committee that ran the school parcel tax Measure A. Without that parcel tax, several schools including Otis and Franklin would have closed. We would also have lost high school sports, high school counselors, and elementary music and library teachers. We would have even lost a week of school each year.

Ms. McKereghan also worked on the Measure I bond campaign. When that passed it meant AUSD had $179 million to fund upgrades to our schools; things like the major renovation on Historic Alameda High School and all the other major upgrades you see happening at our schools around town.

However, Ms. McKereghan has not just worked on political campaigns for our schools. Ms. McKereghan has personally donated over $10,000 to AUSD teachers over the past 10 years. She even donates to my high school baseball team every year. Also, last school year Ms. McKereghan worked with students at Alameda and Encinal High Schools in their efforts to bring the “Small Town, Big Voices” and “Political and Proud” events to their respective schools.

Ms. McKereghan is on the AUSD Board now. She is doing, and has done great work for our students and teachers. Please support her run for the AUSD School Board this November. Her efforts speak for themselves.
