OAKLAND — Two boys, 14 and 16, were arrested Thursday after a man was robbed and had his SUV carjacked in a North Oakland furniture store parking structure, authorities said Friday.
The Oakland youths, and some juvenile suspects who were able to escape, are also believed responsible for at least one other carjacking as well as additional robberies, authorities said.
Police said about 5:26 p.m. Thursday a 43-year-old man had his wallet and Ford SUV taken by force by at least three juvenile suspects in a parking garage in the 4400 block of Shellmound Street.
Authorities said the suspects drove to the parking garage in a Lexus that had been taken by force from a 58-year-old woman in Oakland in another carjacking. The suspects fled in both the SUV and the car, authorities said.
Police spotted the SUV about 6:16 p.m. in the 900 block of Union Street in West Oakland. Several occupants fled the vehicle and the 14- and 16-year-old were later arrested after police set up a perimeter.
The stolen Lexus drove by the scene but it crashed a few moments later nearby and the two occupants were able to escape on foot, authorities said.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426.
