East Bay Regional Park District police officer injured in I-880 crash

HAYWARD — An East Bay Regional Park District motorcycle officer was injured Friday when he collided with a vehicle on Interstate 880 in Hayward, authorities said.

The crash occurred in northbound lanes near the Alvarado Niles Road exit about 3:15 p.m., according to park district police. The officer was rushed to a hospital with moderate injuries. He was later released and is expected to spend the next few weeks recovering at home.

The officer was on official police business when the crash occurred, said Capt. Alan Love.

The other vehicle involved in the collision was described as a Toyota.

All northbound lanes of I-880 were blocked until about 3:50 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Residual traffic problems were expected through the evening.
