PLEASANTON — Officers are asking for the public’s help in finding a man who robbed and carjacked a mall visitor’s Tesla Model X before abandoning it in a Livermore neighborhood, authorities said Thursday.

Around 11:30 a.m., a man was walking back to his Tesla after withdrawing money from an unnamed bank on Stoneridge Mall Road, police said.

Another man approached him and demanded items from him, including his car keys, before driving off in the Tesla.

Police responded moments later and began tracking it after learning its GPS was enabled.

Officers from Pleasanton and Livermore police converged on an unnamed Livermore neighborhood, recovering the car but finding it empty.

A perimeter search did not yield the suspect, described as white, about 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, wearing grey sweatpants and a black long-sleeve turtleneck shirt or sweater.

Anyone with information should call Pleasanton police Det. Anthony Repetto at 925-931-5100 and reference case No. 18-13328.

Contact George Kelly at 408-859-5180.
