SAN LORENZO — A 14-year-old student was arrested after officials said he phoned in what turned out to be a false bomb threat to Bohannon Middle School on Tuesday.
The boy was arrested Wednesday by Alameda County sheriff’s deputies at the school, where he is in the eighth grade.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Kelly said the youth was arrested on suspicion of making a bomb threat and of terrorist threats. He was booked at Alameda County Juvenile Hall.
Kelly said sheriff’s investigators were able to determine the youth used a cellphone to call in the threat to the school, located at 800 Bockman Road, about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday.
The school was evacuated; an extensive search was conducted by deputies with bomb-sniffing dogs, but no devices were found.
The crime report is being reviewed by the district attorney’s office, and a copy also is being sent to school district officials for administrative review, Kelly said.
“Obviously, we’re not happy with what he did. He caused a lot of disruption and a lot of resources were used,” Kelly said. “Our ultimate goal is that he understands the seriousness of what he did, that he learns from it and doesn’t do it again.”
Kelly also said it is hoped the arrest will send a message to anyone else thinking of doing a similar thing that “we will find you and hold you accountable.”
