FREMONT — A 32-year-old San Jose man was arrested early Friday after brandishing a samurai sword in a parking lot, police said.

Officers contacted the man on Boscell Road, near the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, after receiving reports about 6 a.m. that he was wielding the sword in the mall’s parking lot, Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said. By the time they arrived, the man no longer was holding the sword, she added.

Police arrested the man on suspicion of brandishing a weapon; Bosques said they may also seek charges of assault with a deadly weapon.

Investigators also were trying to determine if reports were accurate that the man chased a woman with the sword, Bosques said. They did not identify the suspect immediately.

Check back for updates.
