A woman was shot to death late Thursday night outside the West Oakland BART station, the transit agency said.
The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. in the parking lot on the 7th Street side of the station, BART spokesman Jim Allison said. An ambulance took her to Highland Hospital, where she died.
Police are still investigating whether she was a passenger on a train. Authorities did not immediately identify her.
The shooting suspect fled and police are trying to find him. Police did not provide a detailed description.
BART closed the station from about 10:40 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. while emergency personnel treated the woman. The station opened in time for the morning commute, Allison said.
No other information was available immediately.
